My Hostel !!!

Back to the blog…..

This time thought of writing in English as I don’t have any other way. Since I have Problems in my Internet connection and as I don’t have sinhala fonts in my lapy…
Today I’ll share the memories of my hostel.

Though it is not a home away from home, I have started loving my hostel, may be because I’ll be leaving not only this hostel, but also from Mangalore and India as well. I’m now in the final semester of my degree. The name of my loving hostel is “Laxshmi” and it is situated very near to my faculty. Early in the morning when I open the window of my room I can see the main gate my faculty as well as the entrance door of my III year lecture hall.

Two years back me, together with my Sri Lankan friend Akalanka stepped to this hostel just because of horrible Hostel Foods of my previous hostel. Usually Karnataka State of India is having the worst foods. I love Kerala foods, Tamilnadu foods and specially Gujarathi foods. But.. Never Karnataka foods. These Karnataka people’s favorite dish is Sambar, which is more like flavored water. Sambar is a must for their dinner and lunch.

1st I’ll share you about the meals and Meal plans of my hostel.
I like most of the breakfast food items.

MONDAY - Pulao rice. (One of my favourites)

TUESDAY – Uththappam with coconut curry (Chutney), known as plain Dosa too (Not bad)

WEDNESDAY – Tomato rice. (I’m the only one like this in whole Hostel)

THURSDAY – Poori (Waw. My favourite)

FRIDAY – Lime Rice (Not bad. I like rice dishes)

SATURDAY – Upma (I hate this)

SUNDAY – Parota and Potato curry. (We all love this)

All most all love poori and all are counting days for THURSDAY to have poori. One person is allowed to have only 4 pooris. . When it comes to poori, I remembered another story of mine. Once I have told you about my Nepal tour. While we were traveling in the train, my good friend Umesh ask about my favourite Indian food Item. I told him that it is “Poori”.
How unlucky I was. During my stay in Nepal, from each and every house I was served Poori. For Breakfast it was Poori, Lunch – Same. Again for dinner also Poori. That was really a difficult time for me. Hehehe.

For Lunch every day Sambar curry, two chapatis and one cup of Rice. Every Sunday to Saturday it is same. I don’t like Chapati much. Whenever I go to our Dining hall, there are few North Indian guys, waiting till I offered one of my chapatis to them. They are chapati lovers. They can have Chapati for all three meals of them.
For dinner they serve four days veg meals. Rest three days, One day they serve chicken, two days eggs.
That is all about our never changing meal plans of our Hostel.

Let’s move on to my hostel mates. I’ll tell about some of the famous characters in the hostel.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

1) Mohan (Mona) is From Pondicherry, which was a French colony. Situated in Tamilnadu state. A Tamil guy, whose passion is Dancing. He can draw as well. A caring and Friendly guy, studying in the final Year of Fashion designing degree program of the same university. Since my roommate also in the same department and same year, he always uses to visit our room. His Girl Friend’s Name is _____. Poor girl, who is doing all most all his assignments and Projects. When it comes to exam time, every night he comes to my room and asking my roommate,
“Machaaa Tomorrow is Garment Manufacture Paper ryt ? Don’t you have any notes to read ?” That is how he studies for the exam. After every paper we know what he says
“Ahh.. SHIT… That Paper was damn difficult. This time also Backlog”
2) Sharafath Hussein (Sharu) Room mate of Mohan, 2nd year Interior designing student. Who can’t go even to next door shop without his bike. Same characters like his room mate. Same State, Same city. In his last semester exam, he had exams continuously from 13th to 17th and the final paper was scheduled to be held on 25th. That paper was a common paper for all the 2nd year degree students of Mangalore University and one of the easiest papers (Indian Constitution). A compulsory paper. But, this guy never wanted to write that paper because of the gap of 8 days. He left Mangalore on 17th afternoon, soon after his exam. He will write the paper this time.

3) Wjey has completed his studies in the field of Graphic designing, From Kerala State and was working in a nearby institution as a designer. He is very friendly with me and my room mate. Only Problem we have is this guy is too much caring. When we go near to the bridge he says “Don’t go !! Don’t go !! You will fall down. “ When we have any foods from outside “Don’t eat out side foods.. you’ll get stomachache !! One day both I and my room mate were standing near to a small shop, where they sell Beetles. We were waiting for one of our friends. Suddenly we saw this guy is coming towards us. He told, “You came here to have beetles ?? Don’t have such bad habits. It causes cancers” My room mate, Akalanka is always telling this guy is same like his grand ma.

4) Sandy (Sandeepan) from Assam State, doing his degree in Business Management, born in Sri Lanka and have had come back to India at the age of 4 years. Still he has some memories in Sri Lanka. This guy has 3 – 4 denim pants and among them two are his favorites. He always wears those two. But never wash. According to his room mate he is washing them only once in a semester (5 months) that is just before he goes home for vacation. Trust me, when ever he comes to my room we have to clean our room because of the dust particles (including soil) which are falling to the ground. Having a bath once In a week is very much sufficient to him.

Contd !!!!
